Print Step

Last Updated: October 26, 2026

The Print step is a Vasion Automate workflow step that automatically prints one or more documents from earlier steps when the workflow reaches it.

Key Points

Review the following key points:

  • Prints documents that earlier steps generate or collect, so you do not print them by hand.
  • Keeps printing inside the workflow, so every step stays visible and trackable.
  • Uses your existing PrinterLogic and PrinterLogic Output queues.
  • Supports any workflow trigger, including document events, background workflows, and form submissions.
  • Associates each print job with the user who starts the workflow. If Delegated Release is in use, the user’s delegates can release the job.
  • Sends jobs to one printer per Print step. To print to more than one printer, add a Print step for each printer.

How the Print Step Works

When the workflow reaches the Print step, Vasion Automate sends the selected documents through API Cloud Link (PrinterLogic Output) or Off-Network Print (PrinterLogic). The external gateway receives notice of the job, downloads it, and routes it through the Internal Routing Service (IRS) which sends it to the printer.

You choose one of two destinations:

  • Origin printer: The printer that received the original print job. This option is available only when the workflow starts as a print job, through a document event or a background workflow.
  • Specific printer: A printer you select from a list. The list includes only printers configured for Pull Print and Direct Secure Release.

If the destination is a pull or secure release printer, the job holds until the user who submitted it releases it. If the destination is an origin printer that is not a secure printer, the job prints immediately.

Review the following requirements:

  • PrinterLogic and Vasion Automate licensing. Contact your Vasion representative for more details.
  • A destination printer:
    • The origin printer from print, output, and scan related triggers.
    • A specific printer configured for Pull Print or Direct Secure Release. For more details refer to Secure Release Print.
  • A destination printer configured for Off-Network Print. For more details refer to Off-Network Printing.
  • For customers using API Cloud Link, turn on the PrinterLogic Output feature flag for your instance.
