Manifest v3 FAQ
FAQ
What is browser extension "Manifest"?
- An extension manifest gives the browser information about the extension, such as the most important files and the capabilities the extension might use.
How is Manifest v2 different from v3?
- Manifest v3 includes improvements to privacy, security, and performance. For details, refer to the Overview of Manifest V3 provided by Chrome.
What do I need to do before the end of December 2022?
- Devices utilizing the Chrome, Edge Chromium, or the ChromeOS extensions must be updated to Version 88 or later.
Do I need to update the extensions manually?
- The extensions will automatically update when released in December unless there are environmental restrictions to extension updates.
What happens if I don't update the browser version in time?
- The release of the new Chrome, Edge Chromium, and the ChromeOS extensions on Dec 12 will not function with browsers older then Version 88 of Chromium
- Chrome and Edge Chromium browser extensions: The Self-service Portal will loop and prompt the end-user to install the Client because the extension is not communicating with the Client. End-users will be unable to self-install printers from the portal.
- ChromeOS Extension: Chromebook and ChromeOS devices will not be able to access the Self-service Portal, receive printer deployments, or authenticate end-users.
What can I do to resolve the issue if I don't update in time?
- Update the Chrome and Edge Chromium browser and ChromeOS devices to version 88 or later. Updating will resolve the communication issue and allow the extensions to function as expected.

Vasion Third-Party Vendor Policy
Vasion works with third-party products so long as the vendor continues to support them. However, when they reach “end of life” (as defined by the vendor), we can no longer support them. If this occurs, we suggest you upgrade to a newer version. We define third-party software support as “mainstream support,” not any extended support options a company like Microsoft may offer.
New Feature
Quota Management
Quota Management gives administrators control over user and group printing allowances, and provides a simple interface for adjusting as needed. These printing controls are tracked either by volume or price, helps manage and reduce print volume, increses user accountability, and lowers costs and environmental impact. Quota Management is part of our Cost Management bundle. For more details refer to our FAQ document or visit the Quota Management topic. To request a demo, please contact your Vasion representative.
Known issues:
- For Quota Management to function as designed, you must use a PCL or PCLXL printer driver. In some cases, proprietary or device-specific drivers may not allow the feature to work correctly.
- Currently, the Linux Client counts every print job as one page, potentially causing inaccurate quota tracking. A fix for this is in current development.
- Printers with Pull Print enabled are presenting errors. A fix for this is in development.
