Application Update

The Virtual Appliance has two parts that can be upgraded or updated, the Host build and the Application build. The steps below cover two methods of updating the Virtual Appliance application build. For steps to upgrade the Host build, reference Host Upgrade.
Requirements
- Virtual Appliance Host and Application files are no longer available on the Admin Guide site. To obtain these files please create a support ticket with our team and include:
- Review the Minimum System Requirements for environmental specifics and version compatibility before upgrading your versions.
- Note the network information of the existing Virtual Appliance. Upgrades require the information re-entered as network settings do not carry over during an upgrade.

- There are two options for updating the Application layer, using the Update Now button on Support & Training
About PrinterLogic or manually applying the .gpg file. -
Application version 25.3.1656 is only available by upgrading to Host version 25.3.245 and is not an update option for previous Host versions. Selecting the Update Now button in the console while on a previous Host build will not update the Application to this version.
- If your Virtual Appliance is not using a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate, the Update Now button will not work.
- Updating the Application build on an unsupported Host version may break your Virtual Appliance.
Backup the Virtual Appliance
Before upgrading the Virtual Appliance, it is crucial to back up the database. Failure to do so can result in irreversible data loss. For more information on comprehensive backup guidelines, see Database Backup Recommendations.
Application Update
Automatic Update
The automatic update downloads the package from our online update service over TCP 443. If there is no response when using the Update Now button, verify the Virtual Appliance's Domain Name System (DNS) and SSL requirements are in place.
- In the Admin Console, go to Support & Training
About PrinterLogic. - Verify your current Host build is compatible with the available Application version in the Compatibility Tables.
- If on a compatible version, select the Update Now button.
- Allow a few minutes for the process to complete.
Manual Update
- In the Admin Console, go to Support & Training
About PrinterLogic. - Verify your current Host build is compatible with the available Application version in the Compatibility Tables.
- If on a compatible version, create a support ticket with our team to acquire the Application file.
- Download the file in a place accessible by your Virtual Appliance.
- Connect to the Virtual Appliance share drive.

Open the .updates folder and place the downloaded .gpg file in the folder.
If the .updates folder does not exist, create one. Please ensure you can view hidden folders. Creating a duplicate .updates folder can cause the update to fail.
- Right-click in the .updates folder and select New
Text Document.- Name that document .update.txt.
- Edit the .update.txt file.
- Enter the version number you are updating to; it will match the beginning portion of the .gpg file (example: 20.0.1305).
- Select File
Save As.- Change the Save As type to All Files.
- Name the file .update.ready
- Verify the file Type column for the file (.update.ready) shows as READY File.
- Rename the file to .update
Verify the file Type column for the file (.update) shows as UPDATE File.
You can ignore the LOCK File.
- Once the file is saved as an UPDATE File, the Virtual Appliance will start automatically updating using the .gpg file. To confirm the update progress, open the virtual machine web console for the Virtual Appliance and you will see STATUS: updating. Once the update is complete, you will see STATUS: running.
