Workflow Templates
Last Updated: October 22, 2026
A workflow template is a prebuilt workflow that Vasion provides as a starting point for a new workflow. Use a workflow template to start from a working structure for a common business process instead of building every step on an empty canvas in the workflow builder.
Key Points
Review the following key points:
-
Faster setup: Each template contains the steps and connections for a specific business process, so you configure a workflow instead of building one from scratch.
-
Preview before you commit: Use the Preview page to review a template's steps and connections before you create a workflow.
-
Full editing control: After you create a workflow from the template, you can add, edit, and delete steps in the new workflow.
-
Industry focus: Filter the templates by industry, such as Government, Healthcare, or Retail.
How Workflow Templates Work
Working with a template includes filtering, previewing, creating a workflow from the template, and configuring the new workflow.
Template Cards
The Templates tab displays each template as a card, which shows the following:
-
A category label, such as Form, Document Event, or Print.
-
The template name.
-
A short description.
-
A row of icons that represent the step types in the template.
-
The template card displays icons for up to four step types. If a template has more than four step types, the template card displays icons for the first three step types and the final step type, along with the total number of step types.
-
The template card does not display icons for the following step types: Conditional Logic, Merge, End Branch, and Terminate Workflow.
-
-
Filters for the industries for which the template was designed. Each template card displays up to two filters and the number of additional filters, such as + 4 more.
Preview a Template
When you select a template card, the workflow builder displays the template on the Preview page. The top of the page displays the template name and the Use This Template button. You can reposition the workflow and zoom in and out, but you cannot edit it.
Steps for which you must specify settings display messages that indicate what to configure after you create a workflow from the template, such as "A Form must be selected." and "An Assignee must be selected."
Modify the New Workflow
After you edit steps and configure settings, publish the workflow. For more details refer to Build a Workflow.
