Release Versions

Vasion designed the Virtual Appliance 2025 versioning update to provide clear and consistent information about the release and helps customers quickly identify the timeline and development stage of the software.
Versions
The version format below applies to both Host and Application builds.
- <Year / Major>.<Snapshot / Minor>.<Build>
- Example: 25.1.427
Year / Major
The first part of the version represents the year, also referred to as the major release, and is always a 2-digit number.
- 25.1.427
- Example: The 25 in 25.1.427 represents the year 2025.
Virtual Appliance releases are incremental updates to the build of the previous release. Changes in the Year / Major do not necessarily represent a significant overhaul in the software.
Snapshot / Minor
The second part of the version number represents the snapshot, also referred to as the minor release, and is the number indicating the development stage of the release.
- 25.1.427
- Example: The 1 in 25.1.427 represents the first snapshot / minor release of 2025.
- Example: The 2 in 25.2.335 represents the second snapshot / minor release of 2025.
Build
The final part of the version number is the build number. This sequential number increments with every new software build and serves as a unique identifier for each iteration in a given release cycle. This portion of the version number helps track and differentiate the progression of specific builds within a snapshot.
The build number is where the Host and Application versions differ slightly. To prevent duplicate build numbers, Application builds include a 1000 offset.
- 25.1.427
- Example: For Host builds, the 427 in 25.1.427 represents the 427th snapshot / minor release cycle build for 25.1.
- Example: For Application builds, including the offset, the 1427 in 25.1.1427 represents the 427th snapshot / minor release cycle build for 25.1.
The build number in the version updates to reflect the progression of the software during the development and testing stages.
